Halloween 2013
Sacred Dealings
Recently we added a fourth guinea pig to our guinea pig farm. (I call it a zoo, but don't tell the kids! :) He is a male guinea pig. We have had male guinea pigs in the past, but this guinea pig was very different than the other guinea pigs especially in the genitalia department.
The children noticed it first. I won't go into too much detail, but we became concerned because he looked very swollen; maybe even injured. My veterinarian reassured me that he is fine and there is no need to worry. Okay fine. I won't worry anymore about Obi's genitalia; but I'm worried because quite frankly, it's a little graphic. For the children. The guinea pig(s) are suppose to enhance my children's childhood; not put gross images in their heads of swollen genitalia. So for awhile, I told the kids not to worry and that he is fine. I told them that's just how God made him and finally, I just ended up telling them to ignore it.
That got me thinking that one day I would have to explain everything about our human bodies. I have a hard time with stuff like this and I needed some guidance. I am so grateful for Jocelyn over at beinglds.blogspot.com for doing a blog post on the wonderful book called God Gave You A Body.

And I think it's so adorable how in the back of the book they give outfit examples for young children. It helped me convince my son to wear his tie on Sunday! Now if I can get those suspenders on him! ;) HA!

And this makes five!!
So, as the Lord would have it, we are expecting again!! I honestly think this time I was the MOST surprised, but that's part of all the fun!!! A friend told me the other day that "I've been blessed with motherhood....", and I appreciated hearing that SO much!!
Insomnia and shortness of breath seem to steal the top of the symptom list. My first doctors appointment is tomorrow.

Crossing off our bucket list!!
We crossed off another one of our bucket list items when our family decided to brave the annual OC Fair. I confess it was my first time ever (yes ever!) going; but we had a blast!!! This will definitely be an annual event for our family!!!

Under the Sycamores--Rattlesnake!
Every year, my family and attend this wonderful event put on by the OC parks and Laguna Canyon Foundation. Local snake researcher Steve Bledsoe of the Southwest Field Herping Associates, gave a fabulous presentation of live rattlesnakes, Gopher Snakes, Rosy Boas, and California Kingsnakes. Now I will confess to you that I am not a fan of snakes (I mean isn't that how labor pains were birthed???**pun intended), but this was an event that I could not pass up! My kids loved the snake related activites and of course they loved feeling the REAL, LIVE snakes!!!
The kids had a wonderful time and this event is held every year with a different theme! Last year it was "Meet the Monarchs" which was a butterfly theme. My kids talk about these events all year and I love watching them connect with God's magnificent creation of nature!

Summer Xtreme!
Every year my kids have attended a summer program known as Summer Xtreme. It is basically a super extreme version of VBS that gets kids hearts on the right track for Jesus. It is for eight hours over a course of three days. The itinerary includes, going to the movies (this year it was Despicable Me 2), going to the Knott's Berry Farm water park attraction Soak City, and going to "Boomer's" (another family fun entertainment park). Both my kids have gone the last two years, and this year marks the 3rd!!! This year, my 3 year old went and although I debated on whether or not to let her go, however she did fantastic!
I love this program. I am so thankful that there are outreach programs like this that are ministering to the hearts of children. Yes, I know the foundation for that is found in the home, but this annual experience is one that my children will NEVER forget! :)

Busy Bees
Finally yesterday it happened! It's been summer for awhile and yesterday (I think), was the hottest day yet. Or at least it felt like it. So I decided there was no other option than to head to the pool. I tried to convince my older three children to swim in our own pool while my youngest slept so I could clean and maybe work on my blog set-up; but they were unconvinced! And why should they be??? It's at our community pool they run into the random faces of the school year and unfamiliar pool toys :).
So, we headed out. What seemed to be quite an enjoyable pool trip came to a halt when my 20-month old son got stung by a bee.
Yes a bee.
None of my kids have ever been stung. So, this was a situation of unknown protocol to me. I had heard that people can actually die from bee stings; however, I resisted the urge to pack them all up in the car at lightning speed and drive straight to the emergency room.
"Remain calm", is what part of me was saying. So I did. I googled "bee sting" and was reading a couple of helpful things. I did read about the possible allergic reactions which scared me more, so I decided to just call the pediatrician. Here are your helpful bee sting tips via SOCPA!
Remove bee stinger immediately.
Some people believe you should leave it in; however you should remove the stinger. I manually pulled the stinger out of my son's thumb. :(
It is not really the first bee sting they worry about with allergic reactions, rather the second one.
So, if your child has gotten stung by a bee for the first time, refrain from full-blown worry. She didn't really explain why probably because timing was key; but this was calming to hear.
Watch for any swelling (especially around the face) or difficulty breathing.
If either of these occurs, seek medical attention immediately because these are signs of allergic reaction(s).
Administer ice to the bee sting.
Give Benadryl and Tylenol as needed for itching and pain.
Watch very closely in the next 12 hours.
Because of Bee Bop's age (20 months & name given to him by his siblings;), I did NOT give any Benadryl. The itching didn't seem to be too bad and as our family headed to the park to watch a beautiful sunset, the bee sting memory became all too faint.

Book Club
I have been dying to read Siblings Without Rivalry for a long time. I ordered it on Amazon nearly a year ago and took a peek. I have to fully confess though; I have not read it. Mostly due to time (not having enough of it); so when I logged onto Pinterest and saw a pin for an online book club featuring this read, I was elated!!!!

A day in the life...
So basically today as I layed all four kids down to bed, my eyes fell upon a verse that I have read before; however I have not read it in this translation.
"A wise woman keeps all the people in her household busy and productive." ~The Message
That is a verse from Proverbs and I regret not having the exact address (I'm thinking somewhere in chapter 31); however I will add it as soon as I find it.
I would be lying if I told you that it was a nice verse that I live by, so I will just tell you the truth and tell you how convicting it was for me to read that. Usually, I do strive to be this woman; however today I was in physical pain. The day kind of dragged by until I got tired of it "dragging" which turned out to be very fun. (More about that later). I shouldn't be too hard on myself; we did start out with a craft and the girls were able to find a decent amount of time to build their fairy houses.
So, after our 2 hour park adventure, I allowed the kids to have about 15 minutes of "quiet time" that I used to transition them into the evening/dinner. Of course, my 8 year old picked the TV. I allowed him to watch the Christian station which to my surprise has been teaching him more than I thought. As I was taking a load of laundry to the laundry room; I heard the character on TV saying that God will give us special abilities at the right time for us to be able to overcome what we are dealing with. Amazing! So simply put. I knew this but had never heard it described in such a "child-like" way. And I loved it!!! It was a small little reminder that I needed to remember at the moment. And I will! :)
